How do I submit writing?

The most direct way to submit written work is to email it in an attachment to Galleryoneten@gmail.com. You may also send it by post to Gallery OneTen, Attn:Transportation, 110 South 300 west, Provo, Utah 84601.

How do I submit artwork?

Please bring the artwork to either drop-off location during the times indicated. If you are unable to submit the work during these times, please contact galleryoneten@gmail.com.

Is there a limit on the number of entries I can submit?

You are welcome to submit as many pieces as you like, as long as they relate to transportation/mobility.

When will I know if my piece is included in the show?

The show will be juried on January 22-23. We will notify you shortly thereafter by email, and let you know about upcoming events associated with the show.

Is there a limit on the size of artwork I can submit?

No, but please contact us in advance if your piece is big enough to need special considerations in order to get it through a standard sized doorway.

Will work in the show be for sale?

Both for-sale and NFS work will be included in this show. If you would like your piece to be available for sale through the gallery, please indicate the price when you submit your work. Gallery OneTen makes sales with a 30% commission; 70% of the sale goes to the artist.

Are there framing/presentation requirements for 2-D work submitted to this show?

No, we will be hanging both framed and unframed work. If your work is unframed please submit it in a protective covering of some kind (envelope, folio, etc) labeled with your name.

Note: Interested artists can choose to participate in an optional post show exhibition put on in collaboration with The Temporary Museum of Permanent Change. These art pieces will take to the street and travel around town via various means of visible transportation, or be hung in designated spots in the city-- a travelling exhibition of sorts, a legal dispersion of guerilla art. WRITING AND ART

TRANSPORTATION SHOW AT GALLERY ONE TEN

Seeking original writing and artwork related to transportation. From practical concerns and real-life experiences to proposed solutions or fanciful imagined possible transportation options …anything transportation related is welcome.

Micro: In some way or another, transportation affects nearly every aspect of a person's life.

Macro: Transportation plays a huge role in how communities, cities, landscapes, and ecosystems change.

Open to all media including:

drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking, handmade books, inventions, sound/video, comic strips, diagrams, sketches of ideas-

Poems, stories, essays, proposals, opinions, wish-lists

Art Carpool: There will be a Salt Lake City location for submitting artwork, (from there it will be transported to the gallery in Provo).

Post-show traveling exhibition/urban art project: After the gallery show closes, interested participants and artists can choose to have their work included in an optional second exhibition

This show takes place in an art gallery, but will have elements that reach out into the community in many ways. We invite artists, writers, as well as people of all ages and all walks of life, to contribute to an inclusive, creative effort encouraging thought and dialogue about transportation issues.

Riding, rolling, flying, biking, bussing, walking, zipping along or stuck in traffic-

transportation affects nearly every aspect of our lives-
work, education, recreation,

Have you ever thought about how transportation affects
the food you eat? (how did it get to you, where has it traveled from?)
the air you breathe?
the layout of our communities?

What role does transportation play in your friendships, and in your family?

From vacations and fun road trips to just getting to school, work and the grocery store, transportation is an important part of our lives. Transportation options include all kinds of paradoxes; the same vehicles that help us get places fast can get us stuck in bumper-to-bumper slowdowns for hours. With more cars on the road, we have more traffic jams; building new roads to make room for more cars may mean taking over land that was used for homes, schools, businesses or farms. The same roads that are part of urban sprawl also get us to beautiful places we want to go. The same vehicles that make it easier to get around can also tragically cut life short in a second. Fuels used for helpful transportation can cause a lot of hurtful air pollution.

Many people commute for many miles in a week without getting a chance to exercise, others are able to use exercise as a form of transportation.

Some people have very limited access to transportation, due to financial constraints or physical limitations, and may have a hard time getting around.

Do you face any challenges or struggles with transportation issues?

If you could do three things to improve transportation in your community, what would you do?

What would your ideal public transportation system be like?

Imagining solutions to transportation problems-

Anything from very practical problem solving to imaginative inventions or fantastical wishes-

(For hundreds of years people dreamt of inventing flying machines— most people thought it was a crazy idea…..)

Can you imagine new or different ways that (bikes, boats, zip lines, trampolines, conveyor belts, slides, trains, sails, roller skates, sleds, skis , skateboards, hot air balloons, underground tunnels, personal propellers, …..Etc.) could be used to solve transportation problems?
